Cherie M. Querol Moreno

Cherie M. Querol Moreno, a journalist and advocate for families of color, is the executive editor of Philippine News Today. She's made a significant impact as a domestic violence counselor and program manager, earning multiple accolades for her contributions to the community.

Cherie M. Querol Moreno learned empathy and responsibility, compassion and commitment from her journalist parents, whose example inspired her to form ALLICE.  She draws attention to the plight of families of color as Philippine News Today executive editor and Positively Filipino and Inquirer.net correspondent.

Journalism is her calling and community service her passion.

A BA Communication Arts grad at Maryknoll College, she studied Newswriting at UC Berkeley.  She combines journalism and altruism in nonprofit service: currently as a program manager with Peninsula Family Service; previously as outreach coordinator with HICAP and earlier with CORA, where she earned her state certification as domestic violence counselor, learning cultural competency while giving presentations on the dynamics of intimate partner violence to change attitudes and behaviors.

In 2023 she completed 12 years as Commissioner with the San Mateo County Commission on Aging.
Named 2002 PAAWBAC Woman Warrior, KQED Local Hero, 2019 Maryknoll Amazing Alumna Achiever and 2020 FilAm Law Enforcement Officers Lifetime Achievement Awardee, she was nominated for the 2007 and 2009 San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame, among honors she has received for writing and volunteering.  She cherishes her family – husband Mike, son Chico, daughter-in-law Crystel and their sons Joaquin and Matias.
